“This piece is a tribute to East San Jose, and the streets where I spent the majority of my life growing up. It is an illustrated snapshot that captures the busy streets, the deep-rooted culture that is ever present, the hot and dry Summer weather, and the hardworking street vendors. A nostalgic trip down memory lane of the place I call home.”
About Luis Guardado
Luis Guardado is a graphic designer and illustrator, whose preferred mediums are digital art, pencil/charcoal/ink illustrations, and collages. Luis finds inspiration for his work from several different areas, a lot of it comes from his upbringing as a son of immigrant parents, his experience of growing up around gangs, the influence that the community and culture that San Jose has had on him, his active involvement in the local punk/hardcore/metal scene as both a musician and an artist, and his general love and curiosity for music, art and pondering the human experience. Throughout the last few years Luis has had the privilege to play with some of my favorite bands at some of our local venues, and had the opportunity to do both design and illustrative work for several institutions in San Jose like the Mexican Heritage Plaza, the Earthquakes, and the PowWow art festival.
