Healing

Designed and painted by Elba Raquel with love to the Quetzal Gardens Community

Assisted by Chris Barros and Safi ‘Chachaa’ Kolosvari-Regalado

Supported and commissioned by Resources for Community Development Housing

In this second part of Local Color’s partnership with Resources for Community Development Housing, artist and educator, Elba Raquel, found inspiration for this mural in Quetzal Garden’s unique residents and community.

The 900 square-foot courtyard mural was painted for residents to enjoy in their daily life. Across the way from the entrance to Abode Services, Raquel’s artwork shows the resilience of the community represented by the hearty succulents that surround a hand reaching towards the sky. Raquel’s mural is a visual representation of hope, healing, and growth shared among the people that live and work at Quetzal Gardens.

The new, interior mural is just as breathtaking as the exterior one previously completed by Elba Raquel at Quetzal Gardens,” says Lauren Lyon, a spokesperson for Resources for Community Development. “We are incredibly grateful to Local Color for connecting us with Elba who made our new affordable housing community immeasurably more beautiful and hopeful.
