Local Color and Local Commons Members: San José is Not for Sale, SJ Shooters, and Martha Street Art Night’s projects have been made possible in part by the 2021-2024 Arts & Culture Community Catalyst Grant from the Silicon Valley Community Foundation.

The Kenneth Rainin Foundation is a family foundation that collaborates with creative thinkers in the Arts, Education, and Health. They believe in taking smart risks to achieve breakthroughs. Local Color received the Kenneth Rainin Foundations’ support to jumpstart the Local Commons fiscal sponsorship program from 2020-2023.

Local Color is a proud 2023 and 2024 recipient of the Adobe Foundation’s Hometown Commitment initiative, which is designed to support nonprofit organizations in San José that share a commitment to solving critical local issues, revitalizing the community, and ensuring robust arts and cultural institutions.

Our mission and programs have received support from SVCreates, in partnership with the County of Santa Clara, since 2016 through today.

The County of Santa Clara Supervisors Cindy Chavez of District 2 and Sylvia Arenas of District 1 have generously supported Local Color and Local Commons member Rueben Dario Villa to bring culturally relevant arts opportunities for youth and families across the region.

Local Color’s 2022-24 Creative Youth Development activities are supported in part by the California Arts Council, a state agency. Learn more at www.arts.ca.gov.

The Sharks Foundation is dedicated to enhancing the lives of underserved youth and families in the community with an emphasis in the areas of education, health and safety, and character development. In 2022 we received support for our Artist in Residence Studio Program with funds raised from the Ceramic Shark Benefit Auction in partnership with Zoom and the SJ Sharks. And in 2023, during the Women of Teal Warm Up Jersey Auction!

Local Color worked with PennPAC to design a Fund Development strategy in 2023, which included analyzing our new workshops program, evaluating our current strategies, and developing a 31-page handbook of best practices. The eight-week collaboration was a tremendous success and one of the best consultant experiences ever!

Local Color received critical support via the COVID-19 Nonprofit Resiliency and Sustainability Program for 2023-24 to assist the recovery and growth of the Artists in Residence workspace program.

Local Color and Local Commons Member San José Day have received support from the Applied Materials Foundation to support public pop-up opportunities and San José Day’s annual event, increasing arts access to the broader community and equitable economic opportunities for creatives to thrive in 2021, 2022, and 2023.

Our projects have been made possible in part with the support of the 2017 Knight Cities Challenge from the Knight Foundation as well as in 2020 when we received their support to continue empowering artists through our organization’s mission.
